Occupational hygiene assessment to measure employee exposure to particulate matter (PM), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and noise during workplace activities.
Southdowns was appointed to undertake an occupational hygiene survey to assess airborne contaminants at the premises of an equipment manufacturer, to demonstrate compliance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs).
Manufactured products included plastic moulding, flat channel ducting, PVC and aluminium foil ducting.
As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, Southdowns was also commissioned to assess occupational noise exposures within the main production area.
Key activities with respect to employees’ exposure were identified and representative employees in each main work area were identified. Personal monitoring equipment was attached to staff over a representative period of their shift.
Samples were returned to a laboratory for analysis. A final report was submitted to the client with comparison of WELs and the identification of mitigation options that could be implemented where exceedances of the WELs were identified.
