Southdowns was commissioned by Hill Residential Ltd to produce an air quality assessment for a proposed residential development, located on Lytton Way in the town of Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Proposals included the demolition of existing office building (Use Class B1) and the construction of seven separate blocks comprising 576 residential units, space for 278 car parking spaces and associated infrastructure.
Initial baseline assessment indicated new residents would not be introduced into an area of existing poor air quality.
A detailed road traffic modelling assessment was then undertaken to predict the local air quality impact of operational traffic. Using ADMS-Roads modelling software, the detailed assessment demonstrated NO2 and PM10 concentrations at modelled worst case receptors were within national pollutant objectives and pollutant contribution from introduced traffic was minimal.
Overall, the report established air quality was not a barrier to development.
