Southdowns staff are experienced in providing acoustical design advice on major building projects through all of the RIBA stages. Such advice includes: the specification of building envelope sound insulation performance to achieve suitable internal ambient noise levels; party wall and floor / ceiling constructions; treatments to preserve communication privacy, speech intelligibility in room spaces (including public address and voice alarm), treatments to achieve desired reverberation targets.
Approved Document E of the Building Regulations requires pre-completion sound insulation testing for all new build residential dwellings or conversions. Southdowns provides design advice to developers to minimise the risk that floor/ceiling or party wall constructions eventually fail the numerical sound insulation or sound impact tests once constructed.
Southdowns is a registered testing organisation under the Association of Noise Consultants Registration Scheme for pre-completion testing. Formal certificates are issued for every test that passes the numerical standards set-out in the Regulations, and each report complies with onerous quality management requirements.
Staff have completed assessments to support BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes certifications and credit scoring for developments seeking to achieve higher acoustical performance standards that mandated by the Building Regulations.
