We are delighted to announce that Southdowns Environmental Consultants has been shortlisted for an Association of Noise Consultants award within the category Environmental Noise for our specialist work on Crossrail Contract C510. The ANC holds annual awards to acknowledge and champion excellence in UK acoustic consultants, considering examples of work that ‘displays innovation, and originality in acoustic design or approach to a particular project’.
Crossrail Contract C510 involved the construction of 200m long platform tunnels for 2 new underground stations at Whitechapel and Liverpool Street requiring 24/7 tunnel construction and major surface based support works. It was the first Crossrail works package to use Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) tunnel construction techniques in close proximity to sensitive receptors.
The acoustical challenges of this project were many and included the requirement to design mitigation measures to control significant and varying contributions of airborne noise, structure-borne noise, groundborne noise and vibration.
We will be delivering a presentation on the project on Wednesday 27th June at the ANC conference in Birmingham, prior to the awards ceremony. Awards will be presented by Dr Hugh Hunt, Cambridge University Reader in Engineering Dynamics and Vibration.
