The World Health Organisation has published details of 40 urban areas in the UK where fine particulates (PM2.5) exceeded the EU limit values for protection of human health. The WHO have previously said that air pollution is now a global “public health emergency” that will have untold financial implications for governments. Air pollution was described as a “public health emergency” by a cross-party committee of MPs last month. Earlier this year it took parts of London just one week to breach annual limits for the hourly nitrogen dioxide limit.
Towns in the South-East which exceeded the PM2.5 fine particle limit value included:
- London
- Eastbourne
- Brighton
- Southampton
- Portsmouth
- Southend
