Southdowns’ was commissioned to design and execute specialist occupational noise and spatial dust surveys within its two main production halls, as part of its on-going commitment to the management of risk and occupational health and safety at its turbine manufacturing premises on the Isle of Wight.
Real time measurements of PM10 respirable particulates, PM2.5 particulates and PM1 concentrations were taken across the shop floor. Values were used to create a spatial distribution model of airborne particulates and were compared against exposure limits, allowing the client to assess the effectiveness of ventilation systems.
Sample noise and dust exposures were obtained using attended meters and personal exposure monitors across the site. Representative working practices, the type and duration of individual exposures were discussed and agreed with safety representatives to inform the calculation and evaluation of daily and peak noise exposure levels using the threshold values set out in The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.
