Following refusal of the County Council to permit the extension of a site in West Sussex, Southdowns was commissioned to provide an expert witness to advise on environmental noise issues and to present evidence at public inquiry.
An assessment of potential construction and operational noise impacts was undertaken in accordance with the principles of Annex 2 of Minerals Policy Statement 2. This assessment involved the identification of sensitive receivers, the measurement of baseline noise levels, the calculation and evaluation of noise impacts and the detailed review of mitigation options. An expert witness attended the inquiry and the results of this assessment which showed that noise levels would not exceed established guideline values were presented.
