The development comprises a proposed extension to an existing Club, which is intended to provide high quality facilities to professional shooting teams at an international level.
As is typical for these facilities, the proposed site lies in a rural setting. Following the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s guidance on controlling noise from such facilities, a detailed modelling exercise was undertaken to establish the best position and orientation (horizontal and vertical) of the new facility taking into account the acoustical directivity of the gun fire, the range of possible shooting angles and the locations of sensitive receivers.
Extensive modelling was undertaken to optimise the earth bunding requirements (in terms of height, orientation, and slopes) to ensure that the noise impact would be no worse than that already generated by the existing club operations.
The study was used to support a planning application for the facility.
